It’s been six months since I made a blog post for a long list of reasons, but a major part of it was because I knew once I restarted I’d get flooded with questions about what the future looks like and I didn’t have any answers. Adventures in Missions (the organization that does the World Race) has done a tremendous job of doing everything they can for their racers, but obviously there’s a ton of uncertainties nowadays.
The future is never truly uncertain, since we know God has already won and decided where His children will end up at. But the short-term future of life while we’re on earth is a mystery full of wonder and terror. Last week I finally got some clarity of what’s about to happen, if not necessarily where it’ll happen.
After coming home from the World Race I spent a few months waiting and eventually transferred to the Expedition route of January 2021. Unlike the Classic route that I’d been doing with C Squad, Expedition generally goes to unreached people groups within the 10/40 window (think central and southeast Asia areas). Unfortunately, odds of getting us to places like Kazakhstan and Lebanon and just unrealistic right now due to covid.
So where are we going? God knows, and at this point He’s probably the only one. AIM’s leadership is still trying to figure it all out, but it’s looking like we’ll either go to Guatemala first and travel around Central America for a while, or that we’ll launch domestically.
Let’s be honest, doing a missions trip in Utah or Wisconsin is significantly less cool than in Kyrgyzstan or Azerbaijan. But I’m still very excited for what the future holds! I didn’t sign up for the World Race to visit exotic countries; I signed up because that’s where God led me. I was full of anticipation a year ago for launch not because I was particularly interested in Indonesia or Malaysia, but because I was going with brothers and sisters whom I absolutely loved and because I knew God was going to do some amazing things. This is still true, despite the supposed uncertainties.
C Squad is amazing and will forever hold a very special place in my heart, but I Squad is also a powerhouse of men and women who love the Lord through whom He’ll be working. Getting to serve with them and grow in relationship God alongside them has been a treat and will become sweeter as the months go by. Whatever the future looks like, it’s there by God’s design and He’ll continue to work just as He always has.
Quick thank you to everyone who’s been alongside me since coming home and for all y’all who have been praying and supporting me from across the country! Y’all are the best!
Josiah, you articulated this so well! Hearing your heart is so encouraging and relatable! I’m thrilled that God gave us a chance to be on I Squad together again. You make one heck of a brother!
Let’s go Josiah!! So proud of you! God is still King and He’s always good.

So excited for you, Josiah! These words have been an encouragement to me today – our short term plans may be unknown, but eternity with Christ is certain! Thank you for that reminder!
Always praying for you and waiting also to see what will happen next. I am glad we saw you on zoom Thanksgiving Day.
